Jez plays… Fall Guys!

Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout is a 2020 platformer battle royale game developed by Mediatonic and published by Devolver Digital. It was announced at E3 in June 2019 and released on 4 August 2020 for Microsoft Windows and PlayStation 4. The game draws inspiration from game shows like Takeshi’s Castle, It’s a Knockout and Total Wipeout, and children’s playground games like tag and British bulldog. Fall Guys received positive reviews from critics, who praised its chaotic gameplay and visual appearance.

Up to 60 players compete in matches with battle royale-style gameplay. Players, represented as jellybean-like figures, move around a three-dimensional playing field, with additional moves such as jumping, grabbing, or diving to assist gameplay. The aim is to qualify for subsequent rounds by successfully completing each of the randomly selected mini-games. Certain mini-games involve running towards a finish line at the end of the map, while others add elements of teamwork. On every mini-game, obstacles appear around the map for added complexity. Players who are too slow or who fail certain requirements for a mini-game are eliminated. On the final round, the remaining few players compete in a final match with a randomised mini-game designed for a smaller player size. The winner of the match is the last player standing.

Over a year after the game was first released, it’s time to get back on some Fall Guys. Joined by some wonderful members of my community, we take the Fall Guys world by storm… right until my PS4 decides to have a fit. It was nice while it lasted.

Jez Plays… Horizon Zero Dawn (Completed Playthrough)

Horizon Zero Dawn is an action role-playing game developed by Guerrilla Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The plot follows Aloy, a hunter in a world overrun by machines, who sets out to uncover her past. The player uses ranged weapons, a spear, and stealth to combat mechanical creatures and other enemy forces. A skill tree provides the player with new abilities and bonuses. The player can explore the open world to discover locations and take on side quests. It was released for the PlayStation 4 in 2017 and Microsoft Windows in 2020.

Horizon Zero Dawn was praised by critics for its open world, story, visuals, combat, characterisation, and the performance of voice actress Ashly Burch; however, the dialogue, melee combat, and character models received some criticism. The game won numerous awards and sold over 10 million copies by February 2019, making it one of the best-selling PlayStation 4 games. An expansion, The Frozen Wilds, was released in November 2017. A sequel, Horizon Forbidden West, is currently scheduled to be released for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in 2021.

On October 19th, 2020, I started my first playthrough of the game and was immediately enamoured with the visual beauty of the game and immediately felt all the emotions for the game’s main character, Aloy.

I returned to the game ten days later on October 29th with much better giant mechanical horse smashing skill. I still feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface with this game… so much to enjoy.

I can’t get enough of this game and so I came back to it yet again on November 5th, 2020. Really getting the hang of mechanical slaughter now!

November 12th, 2020. Can’t stop ’til we get enough… murdered mechanical creatures. We had some more exposition this time, as well, I guess. Did most of humanity piss off to the stars? All signs point to maybe.

Back to the future(?) with Aloy and her pet mechanimals for part 5 of my full playthrough of Horizon Zero Dawn on November 19th, 2020.

The story begins to intensify as we head back to the frozen wilds for more from Horizon Zero Dawn. Much progress was made on this day, December 10th, 2020.

It’s January 4th, it’s a new year and we’re hitting the ground hard with some more Horizon Zero Dawn. Over the Christmas break, I went on a major scavenging and uplevelling frenzy and now it’s time to hit the story, and the machines, hard. Let’s go!

We must finish what we started. Let’s take care of the Deathbringer. Extra Aloy-ing on January 5th.

Third visit to Horizon Zero Dawn in a week. On January 7th, 2021, it’s all about the story, let’s see what we can learn about Project: Zero Dawn and what the hell happened in this world!
